World Solar Challenge 2017 a showcase of solar power innovation

The World Solar Challenge will take place in October 2017. This year’s Challenge represents 30 years of solar power innovation since the event commenced in 1987.

Run by the South Australian Government, it is the world’s premier challenge to design and build a solar powered electric vehicle. Participants must drive their vehicles more than 3000 kilometres across the Australian continent from Darwin to Adelaide. The event attracts over 40 teams from 25 countries.

Over the last 30 years, the event has contributed to global innovations in electric vehicle technologies including electric drivetrains, energy storage and energy management as well as solar photovoltaics. It has also seen innovation in advanced, lightweight materials, aerodynamics, tyres and braking systems.
