Carbon Neutral Adelaide aligns with WSPs goals to achieve carbon neutrality and limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C. The company’s core mission is to support communities to thrive, and that includes a responsibility to actively participate in the transition to a net zero carbon future by working with clients to manage climate-related risks and, more directly, by reducing the impact of WSP’s own operations on the environment. WSP place sustainability at the heart of the company, embedded within the company and underpinning all their work.
WSP seeks to create strong, resilient, future ready communities and economies which leave a positive legacy for future generations. WSP’s approach to reducing greenhouse gas emissions is grounded in science and is aligned with WSP’s guiding principles of being future focused and future ready.
WSP has commitment to reduce Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions from their own operations by 60% and Scope 3 emissions by 30% by 2030, from a 2018 base year. In addition to adopting science- based targets, WSP is committing to sourcing 100% renewable electricity by 2030, supporting operational greenhouse gas reduction efforts. WSP has committed to achieve net zero emissions by 2040 across the value chain – the activities they undertake as a firm to deliver services to clients and their communities.
In 2020 WSP in Australia reported a 42% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions and a 62% reduction in Scope 3 GHG emissions, this is well on the way to achieve their goals. More than half of their premises have switched to renewable electricity and they are transitioning the petrol fleet vehicles to hybrid or electric vehicles.
