The William Bligh supports Carbon Neutral Adelaide, seeing the initiative as integral to the city remaining the major shopping, retail and entertainment district for metropolitan Adelaide. The vibrancy of the East End is underpinned by the activity of the many businesses and entertainment venues, all of which must be sustainable and ongoing if the city is to continue to progress. These businesses must transition into the new economy where people and places embrace small, flexible service models and a variety of experiences for the customer. The directors of the William Bligh aim to attract customers who embrace that lifestyle and offer products and services that reflect the changing needs of a vibrant city.
The William Bligh is a small venue in the East End of the City of Adelaide. The William Bligh’s directors have sought to follow a low carbon ethos from the outset. As a small venue, The William Bligh is very aware of minimising business costs and believes that a low carbon outlook is the best means for achieving this. The William Bligh monitors power usage closely and is soon to install timing and monitoring switches on all major appliances to manage energy usage and costs. The William Bligh is also in the process of upgrading all lighting to LED, applying for funding under the Sustainability Incentives Scheme. Future plans also include a green wall on the outside of the venue to grow herbs and garnishes for cocktails and foods and large pot plants to green the Vardon Avenue frontage. All coffee takeaway cups will soon be upgraded to the fully recyclable variety under development by Detmold.
