Why Stone & Chalk is supporting Carbon Neutral Adelaide

Stone & Chalk is the largest innovation ecosystem in Australia. Its mission is to transform Australia into a sustainable, tech-driven economy.

Stone & Chalk has recognised that many of their resident start-ups are tackling the challenge of climate change and have decided to take appropriate steps to recognise and reduce their own impact and to spread awareness for other organisations to do the same.

As a not-for-profit, Stone & Chalk is committed to always putting the community's needs first. Striving to do the right thing for the planet, economy, society, and country is an important part of Stone & Chalk’s mission. Sustainable emerging technology is at the heart of what they do.

What Stone & Chalk is doing to reduce carbon emissions

From February 2021, Stone & Chalk was certified as Carbon Neutral via the Australian Government’s Climate Active, against the 2020 financial year as a base year for emissions measurement and offset. The organisation plans on continuing this certification, even after merging with peak Cybersecurity industry body – AustCyber.

By spreading awareness of their own efforts to be carbon neutral, resident start-ups and corporate partners become more conscious of their own impacts, resulting in multiplied network effects within stakeholder groups that interact with the accommodation and company.

The Stone & Chalk hub operations teams are always looking for new ideas on how to reduce their physical emissions. Currently their focus is on maximising usage of digital document sharing over printing and encouraging staff and residents to cycle or walk to work by improving our end-of-trip facilities. They plan on working with utilities providers and other suppliers to see what options are available for more sustainable sourcing for operational needs.
