St Aloysius College is committed to caring for our common home through responsible use of the earth’s resources. This intention stems from a Catholic identity and Mercy ethos, inspired by the energy of young people to preserve our planet and create greener futures. As a city school, advocating for sustainability is important and students are often the initiators of great programs and ideas that shape direction.
In recent years, St Aloysius College has taken several initiatives to reduce carbon emissions, including energy efficient LED lighting upgrades and the installation of solar panels.
Student groups, such as ‘Green JAM’ (Justice and Mercy) and ‘Greenhouse’ have been formed to promote reduction in waste, with a focus on plastic.
A whole school recycling initiative has been implemented in our journey to zero waste. Keep Cups have been promoted across the school and a weekly Nude Food Day highlights the importance of waste reduction. Technology has been used to support paperless classrooms for certain year levels.
