Renew Adelaide has a mission to create a more exciting, entrepreneurial and active city by using vacant commercial real estate to test, trial and experiment with new ideas. Renew Adelaide is committed to activating under-utilised resources for the betterment of Adelaide while ensuring that these businesses and property partners have a positive contribution to the environment.
Using existing vacant real estate has significant benefits to the environment in repurposing older buildings, increasing energy efficiency and better using existing resources.
Renew Adelaide is excited to join the Carbon Neutral Adelaide program and ensure that new projects improve the city economically, culturally and environmentally.
Since 2010, Renew Adelaide has been activating vacant commercial properties to provide a platform for people to bring great ideas to life. Using these vacant properties means that Renew Adelaide is positively contributing to the reduction of wasted resources – and has helped over 150 businesses, projects and events create interesting experiences in Adelaide. These new ideas must share Renew Adelaide’s strong commitment to ethical practices and have included The Remakery’s recycling, upcycling and fix it clinic, Booknook & Bean café that was part of the first biodegradable cups trial in the Adelaide CBD and the ethical fashion store Uhuru The Label which uses recycled material and natural products to dye garments.
In Renew Adelaide’s own office, small but significant steps have been taken such as separating waste, purchasing recycled paper products and being paperless for the majority of operations.
