Nunkuwarrin Yunti is committed to reducing the organisation’s carbon footprint to reduce costs and the impact on the environment. A Green Mob has been introduced to support new ideas, with some major projects already completed including:

• replacing an old air-conditioning system with new energy efficient units
• upgrading many of the lights to new LED lighting
• reducing the size of the transport fleet
• switching to a Carbon Neutral paper source and implementing systems to reduce the amount of paper being used overall (double sided printing and having access to large documents electronically)
• introducing waste separation systems
• encouraging staff to switch off lights, computers, air-conditioning systems and other equipment when not being used.

New ideas moving forward include:

• looking at the viability of installing solar panels
• using sensor lighting and more energy efficient lighting 
• expanding the waste separation project to include more areas within the building and other external sites
• exploring ways of automating equipment to turn off when not in use.
