As a responsible corporate citizen and a progressive company, Jeffries supports Carbon Neutral Adelaide. Jeffries is a leader in the commercial development of a sustainable industry in South Australia and aims to reduce the footprint, environmental impacts and emissions of existing and new projects and developments.
Jeffries is a fourth-generation, proudly South Australian family business whose purpose is to create value from organic resources to ensure a long-term sustainable organics recycling model for South Australia.
In 2008, Jeffries implemented the forced aeration composting process at the Buckland Park facility as well as the Recycled Organic Screening System (ROSS) to remove visual contamination in the end products. Both systems represented new ingenuity in the composting world and were developed entirely by the Jeffries team. The forced aeration composting system removed the requirement of a mechanical turning process, vastly reducing the carbon footprint of the Buckland Park operation as the usage of large diesel-powered machines was eliminated. The system has been built on specially engineered concrete channels containing pipes that deliver fresh air throughout the composting material via an automated network of fans. The ROSS machine has had more than $6million invested since its introduction in the early 2000s. It automates the removal of contaminants from the organic material and has considerably reduced the need and emissions from re-processing product, which is common in traditional composting.
Jeffries is currently developing new systems to produce energy which will make Buckland Park a fully powered self-sufficient operation and further reduce its carbon footprint.
