Finsbury Green remain one of Australia's only independently audited and manufactured carbon neutral print groups as reported in their annually published, independently audited Sustainability Report since 2002.
Managing their impact on the environment and the sustainability of their supply chain are cornerstones to the services that they provide to their clients.
Finsbury Green have established a number of market-leading initiatives that differentiate their offer from their competitors.
Carbon neutral manufacturing: Finsbury Green remain one of Australia's only independently audited and manufactured carbon neutral print groups. They measure, monitor and proactively reduce emissions from their entire operation, then offset the balance which is approved under the Australian Government's National Carbon Offset Standard (NCOS).
Industry pioneering environmental practice: Computer to plate (CtP): use developer-free technology CtP systems, reducing the need for chemistry and water from the platemaking process. Vegetable-based ink: traditional mineral solvent based inks contribute to ever growing greenhouse gas emissions. 97% of all inks and varnishes they use are vegetable based with the key ingredients made from soy and linseed oil. Low waste pumping systems deliver ink to presses, reducing waste and maximising efficiency. Alcohol-free printing: Isopropyl alcohol used in fountain solutions is another source of greenhouse gas emissions and is the unpleasant odour in many printing plants. They are 99% alcohol free and one of the first printers in Australia to effect such a change. Chemical reduction: Their chemical and solvent usage is very low compared to most, resulting in consistently low factory-to-air emission readings. An environmentally sound chemical recovery system filters and recycles used wash-up solution from presses. Zero Waste to landfill: they separate a large range of materials for recycling or reuse, resulting in zero waste sent to landfill in May 2015. Water and energy: Finsbury Green proactively reduce consumption throughout the whole operation and undertakes many initiatives including power factor correction, voltage optimisation and lighting designed for low power usage.
Finsbury Green Star Rating System: they actively promote sustainable practice throughout their supply chain and provide clients with the ability to select print management suppliers based on their environmental credentials. At the front line of their approach to sustainability is the Finsbury Green Star Rating System (FGSR) that all offset and digital suppliers must complete during the supplier accreditation process. This means that their supply partners are independently audited, using FGSR. By completing an online questionnaire, they are star rated and their CO2 footprint is calculated. FGSR is independently audited and validated by current environmental science sourced from the Australian Government Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, National Greenhouse Accounts Factors 2015, and the National Carbon Offset Standard 2010. The FGSR has been reviewed by an independent panel of industry experts and science professionals and provides an open and transparent environmental rating and highlights areas for improvement. Because of their sustainability efforts, clients can be absolutely assured of the validity and accuracy of their supply chain. In 2015/16 they were able to measure and remove 799 tonnes of CO2 as reported in their 2016 Sustainability Report.
CO2 reporting: Finsbury Green can provide CO2 reporting using the Australian Government's NCOS methodology that currently includes Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions per campaign and division, per supplier, per product and for the entire supply chain.
Imprints: Finsbury Green provide a full range of environmental imprints for use on documents. Clients choose to publish imprints on their publication as a sign of their commitment to an eco-advantaged product.
