What Adelaide Convention Centre is doing to reduce carbon emissions

Adelaide Convention Centre is internationally recognised as a leader in sustainability. An active participant in the global EarthCheck program since 2007, Adelaide Convention Centre is on track to be the first convention centre in Australia to progress from Gold to Platinum certification following ten consecutive years of business sustainability best practice. These efforts have also been recognised internationally by the global events industry via the “IMEX Green Supplier Award” for advancement in reducing environmental impact.

Adelaide Convention Centre has consistently performed above best practice since 2007, virtually eliminating organic waste to landfill and aiming to reuse and recycle at least 90 percent of event waste. Food rescue is a major focus, with Adelaide Convention Centre helping to feed the hungry – over 130,000 unused meals having been re-distributed to OzHarvest and FoodBank. Food recycling is also diverting food waste from landfill, with food scraps composted onsite in a worm farm and used in gardens surrounding the venue.

The Adelaide Convention Centre’s buildings are energy efficient, fitted with motion-detector lighting and escalators and an air-conditioning system that uses the latest Business Monitoring System efficiencies.
